Hawaii Homeschooling Laws

Reporting: Parents must file a notice of intent to homeschool with the local school district before beginning to teach and notice of conclusion within 5 days of having ended the school year. They must also maintain a record of the curriculum materials used.

Compulsory Attendance: Between the ages of 6 and 18.

Required Subjects: This area is not strictly defined which will suit most homeschoolers to a tee. It requires the parents to teach the child educational as well as up-to-date and useful skills, taking into account the child’s natural skills and interests.

Testing: The parents must administer a standardized test of their choice in Gr 3, 5, 8 and 10 and file it in an annual evaluation/progress report with the local school officials.
